Special Music 8/9/09
As a young girl Jackie “Jazz-Smith“ Jefferson, daughter of Nashville musical legend William O. Smith, grew up with the likes of Cab Calloway and Dizzie Gillespie playing all-night jam sessions in her family home. This early exposure developed into a love and respect for music. Singers from Sarah to Sade have influenced Jackie’s sometimes sassy, sometimes serious style of music. Jackie is a storyteller. Each song has a tale, “I use everything I got to bring life to that story“, she says. From historic Printers Alley to Jenna Bush’s wedding Jackie has graced stages all over North America. She has worked with such notables as Jonathan Butler, Mica Paris, Chubby Checker, Hank Williams, Jr. and the Impressions. Locally, she has been featured with diverse acts such as Tyrone Smith, John Birdsong, The Andy Goodrich Quartet, and Walt Scott. “In 1992, I became a member of the house band at RSN under the direction of Mark Horowitz. The exposure to this kind of spiritual and integritous music opened up a whole new world that allows full expression of my ideals.”
